Ornamental Versals Black by Måns Grebäck is a free decorative display font built around stately serif capitals and dense curling foliage. Fine tendrils loop through and around the broad letterforms, creating the elaborate look of engraved initials and nineteenth-century ornament.
Book covers are its strongest setting, especially for editions of folklore, poetry, or historical fiction. The vine-filled letters can also shape theatrical posters, formal invitations, and decorative packaging with a suitably lavish theme. Readers drawn to antique illustration and maximal Victorian detail are the clearest audience for this lettering rather than restrained typography.
