Open Egmont Kapitalen (DEMO) Font

Open Egmont Kapitalen by Koeiekat is a free retro serif display font with the poised drama of vintage title lettering. Its tall capitals combine hairline strokes with broad sweeping curves and sharply tapered joins. Fine double contours give each form an engraved ornamental edge.

Book covers are its strongest setting, especially for historical fiction and literary editions. It also suits museum posters and heritage branding, where the elegant proportions recall formal print traditions. Against portraits, engraved scenes, or botanical artwork, the internal lines echo traditional illustration techniques.

Digitized by koeiekat. This font is an interpretation of Sjoerd Hendrik de Roos's Open Egmont Kapitalen, also known as Egmont Inline and Egmont Versalien. It is based on a 1935 specimen sheet from Lettergieterij Amsterdam, with punctuation based on a 1938(?) specimen sheet from Intertype.

The alternate lowercase b and r are based on a 1951 specimen sheet from the Belgian type foundry Plantin. Alternate forms of c, d, g, o, p, q, and u were added by koeiekat.
