GangueOuais, designed by Darren Rigby of Objets Dart, is a free geometric display sans with an Art Deco edge. Broad circular forms and fine monoline strokes meet abrupt solid sections, producing a sharp pattern of light and mass across the letters.
Fashion and culture audiences will recognize its sleek, theatrical manner in magazine covers, event posters, and record packaging. The contrast between airy curves and hard-edged blocks gives a boutique label or creative studio branding a memorable visual signature.
Created to duplicate dry-transfer letters used in the NPL's first Underground Enigma. The font was identified as Grock-but-some-letters-have-been-changed. "Gangue" is the worthless rock in which valuable minerals occur, so it's a G-rock, pronounced just like "gang", so the whole thing should be pronounced "gangway" with a French accent.
